Save the Date! On Saturday, May 20th, we’re joining up with Outer Light Brewing Company and Reforest the Tropics for a Limited Release IPA Launch. The event, taking place from 3 to 6pm at Outer Light Brewing in Groton, Connecticut, will feature a gear raffle, music, a food truck, and info sessions, including trail work with Avalonia Land Conservancy.

“We jumped at the opportunity to work with a company that aligns so well with who we are and can share the same passion. We celebrate the Northeast outdoors and everything it has to offer,” said Tom Drejer, owner of Outer Light Brewing. “It’s exactly what our mountain wave logo and tag line are all about. Hit the Beach, Head for the Hills— We have it all in New England.  Most importantly it was an opportunity to draw attention to global sustainability efforts in reforestation, ecological biodiversity, and climate awareness with the additional partnership with Reforest the Tropics, which is also a local non-profit. On the day of the event we all get to head out and do an invasive species cleanup on a local hiking trail, and then have a great event at the brewery that has something fun for everyone. Super cool raffle prizes, free tree saplings, live music, food, awesome EMS gear to check out, and of course a new great beer to try!”

Can label design inspired by a 1978 EMS Catalog.

The brew, according to Tom, features a hybrid yeast strain blending both lager and ale, creating a “smooth, clean backdrop for straight pillowy pineapple resin juice to sit on. This is literally the flavor we are getting and we couldn’t be more excited with the result. I have to say this is one of our coolest creations yet. We can’t wait for everyone to try it.” (What distinguishes a cold IPA, he explained, is that it is fermented cold, similar to lagers, as opposed to most ales.) A portion of pour proceeds during this release will be going to Reforest the Tropics, a local non-profit with a global reach—Stay tuned for an interview with RTT’s Executive Director Greg Powell to learn more about their program and mission and for the story behind the brew name.
